Auditor General, Julia Mullaley, delivered her report to the House of Assembly today on the Update on Recommendations from the December 2014 and June 2015 Reports on Reviews of Departments and Crown Agencies. The report provides an overview of the implementation status of 131 recommendations made in these reports that included 17 organizations.

“Our reports provide recommendations that are designed to improve processes and overall performance in the management and delivery of Government programs and services,” said Ms. Mullaley. “Monitoring and reporting on the status of implementation of recommendations promotes accountability by providing the House of Assembly with information about how responsive government has been to our recommendations.”

The Office of the Auditor General monitors and reports on the implementation status of recommendations approximately three years after reports are tabled in the House of Assembly. This is intended to provide sufficient time for departments and Crown agencies to consider and implement our recommendations.

Seventy-four of the 131 recommendations, or 57 per cent, have been fully implemented or otherwise resolved. A further 49 recommendations, or 37 per cent have been partially implemented and eight recommendations have not been implemented.

“I encourage government, and others responsible for oversight, to continue monitoring the implementation of the recommendations contained in our reports. Such oversight plays a key role in improving the timeliness and rate of implementation of recommendations made by the Office of the Auditor General.”
– Julia Mullaley, Auditor General of Newfoundland and Labrador
