Provincial Government Announces Funding for Placentia Regional Wellness Centre

The Provincial Government announced today over $7.8 million in joint funding for the construction of the Placentia Regional Wellness Centre.

The Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister of Service NL and MHA for Placentia-St. Mary’s on behalf of the Honourable Graham Letto, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, was joined for the announcement today by Ken McDonald, MP for Avalon on behalf of the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, and Bernard Power, Mayor of Placentia. The Provincial Government is contributing approximately $3.6 million; the Federal Government is providing up to $2.6 million; and the Town of Placentia is providing $1.6 million for the project.

A new extension will be constructed to the existing Unity Parc Arena with plans to include a main swimming pool, a family pool, fitness room, walking track and multi-purpose room. The regional centre will offer residents year-round recreation and community programming while providing new employment opportunities for youth and residents.

This initiative delivers on commitments in The Way Forward to strengthen the province’s economic foundation and deliver better services and better outcomes for residents.
