The Honourable Graham Letto, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED:

Corner Brook Cannabis Production Facility (Reg.1988)
Proponent: Turtle Technologies Inc.

The project is released subject to the following conditions:

  • A comprehensive Waste Management Plan shall be submitted to, and approved by, the Pollution Prevention Division prior to the introduction of cannabis to the facility. For further information, please contact the Pollution Prevention Division at (709) 729-7012
  • As the facility may require additional highway lanes to access the site, and access must meet the Highway Access Policy requirements, traffic usage information shall be submitted to the Department of Transportation and Works to determine whether a Traffic Impact Study is required. For further information, please contact the Department of Transportation and Works at (709) 729-5493.
  • A natural vegetation buffer must be maintained between the site and surrounding properties and thoroughfares. A minimum 30-metre natural vegetation buffer must be maintained between the site and any surrounding watercourse or water body. For further information, please contact the Government Service Centre of the Department of Service NL at (709) 637-2204.
  • As there are known rare botanical species on site, the Wildlife Division will need to be advised before any further vegetation clearing is conducted. For further information, please contact the Department of Fisheries and Land Resources at (709) 637-2025.

Bauline Line Quarry (Torbay) (Reg. 1976)
Proponent: Northeast Aggregate Ltd.

The project is released subject to the following conditions:

  • The proponent must maintain a 0.65 hectare undisturbed tree/vegetated buffer in the middle of the quarry to reduce visibility from the Bauline Line (please see map at the link below: www.mae.gov.nl.ca/env_assessment/projects/Y2018/1976/). Approval will be required from the Department of Natural Resources and Deparment of Municipal Affairs and Environment for any modifications to the buffer.
  • The proponent must maintain a 0.12 hectare undisturbed tree/vegetated buffer in the southwest corner of the quarry for Gosse’s Pond and Big Three Corner Pond Management Area for the Torbay Municipal Wetland Stewardship Agreement (please see map at the link below: www.mae.gov.nl.ca/env_assessment/projects/Y2018/1976/).

DECISION ON APPEAL:

Indian Head Hatchery Expansion Project (Reg. 1975)
Proponent: Northern Harvest Smolt Ltd.

An appeal of the decision to release the above undertaking from further environmental assessment was received on November 5, 2018. The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment has determined that the decision on September 4, 2018, stands and the appeal is dismissed.
