Public Advisory: National Test of Alert Ready to Take Place Today

  • Municipal Affairs and Environment

November 27, 2019

Today, Newfoundland and Labrador will issue a test message of the national emergency alerting system, Alert Ready, at 1:55 p.m. (NST) and 1:25 p.m. in Labrador (AST). Residents need not take any action when receiving the test message.

The system allows for the delivery of emergency alerts to residents during emergency situations to television, radio, and compatible wireless devices. The system was developed in collaboration across the country with federal, provincial, and territorial emergency management officials, Environment and Climate Change Canada, Pelmorex, the broadcasting industry, and wireless service providers.

Not all residents will receive the test alert on their wireless devices. There may be a number of reasons why a device may not receive the alert, including: device compatibility, network connection, cell tower coverage, device software and settings.
