The Honourable Graham Letto, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING WITHDRAWN:

St. John’s (Sugarloaf Place) Cannabis Production Facility (Reg. 1977)
Proponent: Atlantic Cultivation Inc.

DECISION ON APPEAL:

Placentia Bay Atlantic Salmon Aquaculture Project (Reg. 1834)
Proponent: Grieg NL Nurseries Ltd. and Grieg NL Seafarms Ltd.

An appeal of the decision to accept the environmental impact statement for the above undertaking was received on October 25, 2018. The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment has determined that the decision on August 28, 2018, stands and the appeal is dismissed. The decision on the appeal can be viewed on the department’s website at: www.mae.gov.nl.ca/env_assessment/projects/Y2016/1834/index.html.

UNDERTAKING RELEASED:

Grand Falls-Windsor Wastewater Treatment Facility Expansion (Reg. 1986)
Proponent: Town of Grand Falls-Windsor

The project is released subject to the following conditions:

  • The Town of Grand Falls-Windsor must develop a Women’s Employment Plan for the construction phase of the Wastewater Treatment Facility Expansion. The plan should identify specific commitments to support the recruitment, training, employment and retention of women. All contractors and sub-contractors will be required to adhere to the commitments as laid out in this plan. The plan must be approved by the Deputy Minister Responsible for the Women’s Policy Office prior to the startup of any work on the project.
  • As the existing wastewater treatment facility is closer to residential areas than the recommended separation distance of 300 metres, the existing tree line must be maintained to minimize odour impacts.
