Construction Begins on New Wastewater Treatment Plant for Gander

Today, the Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services and MHA for Gander, participated in a sod-turning ceremony held to celebrate the beginning of construction of the Town of Gander’s new wastewater treatment plant. Minister Haggie was joined for the event by representatives of the Federal Government and Percy Farwell, Mayor of Gander.

Through the construction of the new plant, the Town of Gander will meet the federal wastewater regulations. The Wastewater Treatment Plant will be located south east of Whitman’s Pond and construction is expected to conclude in early winter of 2020. The Provincial Government provided over $10 million to the project, the Federal Government contributed up to $11 million, and local municipalities contributed over $13 million.

Through The Way Forward, the Provincial Government is taking action to strengthen the province’s economic foundation, improve efficiency, and deliver better services and better outcomes for residents.
