The Honourable Graham Letto, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

ADDENDUM SUBMITTED:
Colinet-Rocky River Zip Line and Adventure Park (Reg. 1752) Proponent: Mr. Trevor Linehan

The proponent has submitted an addendum to the Environmental Preview Report (EPR), as required by the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment. The addendum is posted on the department’s web page at the following link: https://www.mae.gov.nl.ca/env_assessment/projects/Y2014/1752/index.html. The public is invited to review the addendum and to submit comments to the department by December 27, 2018. Submit comments by email to the Chair of the Environmental Assessment Committee, Brenda Rowe, at browe@gov.nl.ca, or to EAProjectComments@gov.nl.ca. Comments may also be submitted by mail to the address in the Learn More section below. The minister’s decision on the addendum is due by January 6, 2019.

UNDERTAKING RELEASED:

Emerald Vale Quarry (Reg. 1979)
Proponent: Cabot Ready Mix Limited

The project is released subject to the following conditions:

  1. The proponent must prepare and submit an Environmental Protection Plan for the construction, operation and rehabilitation phases of the undertaking to be approved by the Minister of Municiapal Affairs and Environment prior to construction. The plan shall include, but is not limited to:
    • a site drainage plan (water resources management plan),
    • control measures to reduce dust generation from aggregate and heavy equipment operations at the site in order to reduce the potential of dust blowing offsite,
    • noise control measures to mitigate noise from the site to surrounding areas, and
    • a rehabilitation plan.
  2. The proponent shall not carry out any activities at the quarry site between the hours of 18:00 to 07:00 Monday to Friday or from 18:00 on Friday to 07:00 on Monday.
  3. The proponent must avoid land clearing during the migratory bird breeding season defined from April 15th to August 15th in this region.
  4. The proponent must use dust control measures to control dust at the quarry site and the related road to ensure that dust is not transmitted off site. Stockpiles must be covered and watered to prevent aerial transmission of dust.
