  • Municipal Affairs and Environment

October 19, 2018

The Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment is monitoring Environment and Climate Change Canada weather forecast information on an approaching system that will bring periods of heavy rainfall and strong winds to the island beginning tomorrow and last into Monday for some areas. A rainfall warning has been issued for the south and southwest coasts with potential amounts between 100-200 millimetres by late Sunday. Rainfall warnings and special weather statements have been issued for other areas of the island. Wind gusts may occur up to 100 kilometres per hour along the south coast.

Heavy rainfall can cause elevated water levels in water bodies, pooling of water in low lying areas and localized flooding. Residents are reminded to follow the latest weather forecast for further alert bulletins and to take measures to ensure personal safety.
