  • Municipal Affairs and Environment

October 19, 2018

The Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment is monitoring Environment and Climate Change Canada weather forecast information on an approaching system that is expected to bring periods of heavy rainfall and strong winds to the island beginning tomorrow and lasting into Monday for some areas. Special weather statements have been issued that indicate potential rainfall of 50 to 75 millimetres for parts of the island. The south and southwest coasts and the Connaigre Peninsula may receive 75 to 100 millimetres of rain. Wind gusts may occur up to 100 kilometres per hour along the south coast.

Heavy rainfall can cause elevated water levels in water bodies, pooling of water in low lying areas and minor localized flooding. Residents are reminded to follow the latest weather forecast for further alert bulletins and to take measures to ensure personal safety.
