The following is being distributed at the request of the Municipal Assessment Agency:

The Municipal Assessment Agency today (October 1, 2018) mailed property assessment notices for 225 municipalities (excluding the City of St. John’s). The value on the assessment notice will be used by municipalities in the calculation of the 2019 property and business taxes. Property owners with questions or concerns about their assessed values are encouraged to contact the Municipal Assessment Agency by calling toll-free, 1-877-777-2807 or visiting the agency website, maa.ca .

The Assessment Act, 2006 requires that assessed values for 2019 be determined using January 1, 2017 as a reference date. The values on the assessment notices for 2019 will reflect the property value as of January 1, 2017, in accordance with the legislation. The Municipal Assessment Agency, a Crown-owned corporation, governed by a representative board of directors, is the entity responsible to provide real property assessments under the Assessment Act, 2006.
