Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.


Lewisporte Aggregate Quarry
Proponent: A & B Construction Ltd.                                    
(Reg. 1961)

The proponent is proposing to develop a 10 to 15 hectare aggregate quarry within a 28 hectare area. The site is located approximately three kilometres south of Lewisporte and 500 metres east of Route 340 and will be accessed via an existing road. The undertaking will involve the excavation and removal of aggregate deposits from the area using excavators and loaders from May to December, over approximately 10 years.

The undertaking was registered on May 10, 2018; the deadline for public comments is June 14, 2018; and the minister’s decision is due by June 24, 2018.


Baie Verte Tailings Management Facility Expansion, Ming Copper-Gold Mine
Proponent: Rambler Metals and Mining Canada Limited                                        
(Reg. 1939)

The proponent has submitted an environmental preview report (EPR) for the above undertaking as required by the minister. The EPR document is available on the Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment website at: Public comments regarding the EPR are welcome and must be received by June 14, 2018. Public comments may be emailed to the chair of the Environmental Assessment Committee, John Reynolds, at or to, or they may be mailed to the address below. The minister’s decision on the EPR is due by June 23, 2018.

Proponent: Iron Ore Company of Canada (formerly FerroQuartz Labrador Inc.)


Health Sciences Centre Berm                             (Reg.1887)
Proponent: Eastern Health

The deadline for the minister’s decision has been extended to May 31, 2018.
