Media Advisory: Minister Parsons Attending Spirit Horse Therapy Session at Her Majesty’s Penitentiary

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General, will be attending a therapy session being held by Spirit Horse NL at Her Majesty’s Penitentiary on Monday, September 10. Media are invited to join Minister Parsons and Spirit Horse NL Program Director Erin Gallant to meet the horses and learn about the program. Media should arrive by 1:00 p.m. for a 1:15 p.m. start.

Spirit Horse NL aims to enhance the mental health and life skills of youth, adults, families, and groups through therapeutic interaction with horses. Ms. Gallant started an equine therapy program for those suffering from mental illness and Newfoundland and Labrador is the first province in Canada to allow horse therapy in prisons. Spirit Horse NL has held sessions at HMP as well as the Newfoundland and Labrador Correctional Centre for Women in Clarenville.
