Media Advisory: Minister Parsons Attending Correctional Officer Recruit Training Opening Ceremonies

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety, will bring greetings at the opening ceremonies of the 2018 Correctional Officer Recruit Training. The ceremony will take place Monday, January 15, at 9:00 a.m. at the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Headquarters, Parade Street Memorial Campus, Parade Street, St. John’s.

Correctional officers work at five correctional facilities throughout the province and two detention centres located in Corner Brook and St. John’s. There are 13 recruits, seven females and six males, beginning the training program today. Recruits will get on the job training as well as training including Mental Health First Aid Course, Use of Force /Self Defense Training, Aboriginal Cultural Diversity Training by the St. John’s Native Friendship Centre, Respectful Workplace in consultation with the Women in Resource and Development Corporation, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Training with Eastern Health, Autism Awareness, LGBTQ2+ Awareness and Workplace Wellness.
