Minister Congratulates Western Health on Stellar Accreditation Rating

  • Health and Community Services

December 10, 2018

The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, congratulates Western Health on achieving a 98 per cent compliance rating with Accreditation Canada’s national standards of excellence.

Accreditation is a process that takes place every four years, providing organizations with an independent, third-party assessment against standards of excellence to identify what is being done well and what needs to be improved. The focus of accreditation is on the processes used to deliver care by the health authority.

In October 2018, a team from Accreditation Canada visited 16 sites across the Western region, including its hospitals, long-term care facilities, and community-based offices, and were quick to point out the quality of the organization’s patient-centred care approach.

To date, Labrador-Grenfell Health and Eastern Health have also received over 90 per cent in their accreditation ratings. Central Health will learn their result in September 2019.

Quote
“From the boards of directors to frontline staff, and members of the community, including patients, families and community partners, the ratings being received by our regional health authorities speak volumes for our province’s health care system.”
