Provincial Government Announces Appointments to Labrador-Grenfell Health Board of Trustees

The Provincial Government has announced four new appointments to the Labrador-Grenfell Regional Health Authority Board of Trustees.

Effective September 28, 2018, for a three-year term, the new members are:

  • Colin O’Brien
  • Gertrude Bromley
  • Dr. Wayne Button
  • Terrance (Terry) Joseph Casey

Labrador-Grenfell Health provides services to a population of just under 37,000 people, covering the communities north of Bartlett’s Harbour on the Northern Peninsula and all of Labrador.

These appointments were recommended though the merit-based Independent Appointments Commission. Members of the public interested in opportunities to serve on provincial agencies, boards and commissions are encouraged to complete an application at www.iacnl.ca .

Biographies for new members appointed to the Labrador-Grenfell Regional Health Authority Board

Colin O’Brien
Colin O’Brien is a Business Development Officer with the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). Originally from Labrador, Colin was raised in L’Anse Au Loup; his career brought him to central Labrador in 2002. He attended Memorial University and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. His volunteer activities include being a past member of the Labrador North Chamber of Commerce board of directors, the Goose Bay Airport Corporation and presently the Early Childhood Development Association as well as the Grenfell Foundation’s Labrador East Chapter. Colin and his wife Julia, along with their two daughters, currently live in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

Gertrude Bromley
Gertrude Bromley has over 35 years of experience in nursing across diverse areas including community health, surgical, and nursing management. Ms. Bromley has completed several diplomas including a Nurse Practitioner diploma from Dalhousie University and a Nursing Administration diploma from Athabasca University. She currently resides in Conche and is looking forward to bringing her vast experience in health care to the board.

Dr. Wayne Button
Wayne Button is a chiropractor that has owned and operated his own private practice for eight years. He also sits as the current Mayor of Labrador City. Dr. Button earned his Doctorate in Chiropractic in 2009 from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. He is involved in a number of community initiatives, sitting on different boards in both the capacity of community recreation and theatre arts.

Terrance (Terry) Joseph Casey
Terrance Joseph Casey is a retired principal and high school English teacher with the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District; all of his teaching and administrative experience has been in Labrador. Mr. Casey grew up in Conche, on the Northern Peninsula, and has resided in Labrador for the last 32 years, currently living in L’Anse au Loup. Mr. Casey served nine years, in various executive roles on Eagle River Credit Union’s Board of Directors; has previously held executive positions (past president, treasurer, secretary, communications / public relations officer) on the local branch of the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association, over the duration of his educational career; and has been involved on both local and regional committees in Labrador. Mr. Casey holds a Masters in Educational Leadership Studies, Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) from Memorial University.
