September 11, 2018

The Provincial Government will hold public consultations to help inform the drafting of new Emergency Health Services and Community Paramedicine Legislation. New, dedicated emergency medical services legislation will bring Newfoundland and Labrador in line with other jurisdictions, and increase accountability and establish provincial ambulance performance standards. Through the consultation process, the department will seek input on how to ensure the new legislation consolidates and improves existing legislation, allows for the adoption of national guidelines, improves system transparency and accountability, reduces regulatory confusion, and implements program standards.

“Maintaining the integrity of ambulance services in our province is paramount. I am pleased to begin this consultation process so that we may hear from the public about what is important to them. As recommended by Fitch and Associates, this new legislation will help us achieve a modern and reliable road ambulance system, and help ensure the system establishes consistent standards and oversight.”
Honourable John Haggie
