The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources will hold public consultation sessions to prepare a new five-year operating plan for Forest Management Districts 14 and 15 (Zone 6). The meetings are an opportunity for participants to provide input on potential environmental effects of proposed forestry activities on social, economic and recreational conditions associated with the forest resource.
Public consultation sessions will be held June 26 at the Massey Drive Forest Management District office in Corner Brook, and June 27 at the St. George’s Forest Management District Office. Meetings in both locations will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Any interested person who is unable to attend the sessions may contact the senior planner at 709-637-2091 or submit feedback via email at coreywight@gov.nl.ca. Additional consultation sessions will be available to communities and groups upon request.
Zone 6 includes a large portion of the south and west coast of the Island of Newfoundland and includes the municipalities of Deer Lake, Pasadena, Corner Brook, Stephenville, Burgeo, Port aux Basques and surrounding areas. The plans describe proposed forestry operations over a five-year period and include forest access road construction and decommissioning, proposed allocation of wood supply, forest harvesting and silviculture.
