Premier Ball Announces Funding for New Town Hall and Fire Vehicle for L’Anse au Clair

Today, the Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, announced provincial funding of over $1.1 million for the Town of L’Anse au Clair for construction of a new town hall and the purchase of a new fire vehicle for the fire department.

Premier Ball was joined in L’Anse au Clair by the Honourable Graham Letto, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment; the Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development and MHA for Cartwright – L’Anse au Clair; and Chad Letto, Mayor of L’Anse au Clair.

Through the Municipal Capital Works program, the Provincial Government will invest over $1 million in a cost-shared project to build a new town hall. The municipal share is approximately $725,000. In March 2017, the Provincial Government released its three-year municipal infrastructure program which will see $100 million provided for Municipal Capital Works and Multi-Year Capital Works from 2017 to 2020 to support the development of municipal infrastructure.

In addition, the Provincial Government will invest over $108,000 for a new Rural Response Vehicle for the town. The vehicle will be cost-shared, with the Provincial Government funding 80 per cent and the municipality funding 20 percent of the total. Budget 2018 includes an investment of $1.88 million for fire protection vehicles and firefighting equipment program.

This initiative delivers on commitments in The Way Forward to strengthen the province’s economic foundation and deliver better services and better outcomes for residents.
