Provincial Government Announces New President/CEO for the Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women

The Honourable Carol Anne Haley, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, today announced the appointment of Paula Sheppard as President/CEO of the Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women. Ms. Sheppard’s appointment, effective January 2, 2019, is for a three-year term.

The Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women was established in 1980 and provides advice to the government on issues affecting women in the province.

The appointment was made through the merit-based Independent Appointments Commission. Members of the public interested in opportunities to serve on provincial agencies, boards and commissions are encouraged to complete an application at www.iacnl.ca external link icon.

BACKGROUNDER
Biography of Paula Sheppard

Paula Sheppard is a diligent supporter and a fierce advocate for women. She has worked closely with colleagues and all levels of government to support women with the unique barriers they face. As CEO of the Newfoundland and Labrador Organization of Women Entrepreneurs, Ms. Sheppard gained a first-hand knowledge and understanding of the critical importance of women to the social and economic success of our province.

Ms. Sheppard is the vice chair and a founding member of the Women’s Enterprise Organizations of Canada and a member of Gender Equity Network Canada, a project of the Status of Women Canada. She was also the co-chair of Atlantic Canada Women in Exporting working group from 2011-2012.

Ms. Sheppard holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Co-op), Human Resources and Labour Relations from Memorial University.
