Media Advisory: Minister Coady to Speak at Women’s Recognition Night Event Hosted by the Longshoreman’s Protective Union

The Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources and Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, will bring greetings at the Longshoreman’s Protective Union (LSPU) (International Longshoreman’s Association) Local 1953 Women’s Recognition Night this evening (Wednesday, November 7). The event will be held at the Benevolent Irish Society on 30 Harvey Road, St. John’s at 7:30 p.m.

The Longshoremen’s Protective Union started organizing on the St. John’s waterfront in 1890, becoming officially unionized in 1903. The LSPU once had 5 local chapters and is the oldest active union in the province.
