The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will participate in multiple events to help recognize the International Day of Older Persons and National Seniors Day on Monday, October 1.
At 9:15 a.m. in the main lobby of East Block, Confederation Building, Premier Ball will make an important announcement regarding long-term care and community support services, as well as raise the United Nations Flag in recognition of seniors. Premier Ball will be joined by the Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, and the Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development.
A technical briefing for media will take place at the Media Centre, Ground Floor, East Block, at 8:30 a.m.
At 10:30 a.m., Premier Ball will present the 2018 Seniors of Distinction Awards at the Capital Hotel, 208 Kenmount Road, St. John’s. Premier Ball will be joined by Minister Dempster and Derek Bennett, Parliamentary Secretary for Children, Seniors and Social Development at this event.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Seniors of Distinction Awards recognize and celebrate the contributions, achievements and diversity of seniors throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. This year’s recipients were announced on June 29, 2018, and their biographies are available here:
