Premier Ball to Welcome Governor General of Canada to Newfoundland and Labrador

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Honourable Judy Foote, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador, will welcome Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, to the province, tomorrow (Thursday, September 20). This marks Her Excellency’s first official visit to Newfoundland and Labrador.

The official welcome will take place in St. John’s on the steps of Confederation Building at 9:30 a.m. where Her Excellency will receive full military honours. The general public is invited to attend the ceremony. If the weather does not cooperate, the ceremony will move to the main lobby of Confederation Building.

Premier Ball and the Lieutenant Governor will host a private reception in honour of Her Excellency’s official visit at Government House at 7:00 p.m. Members of the media are invited to cover speeches and Her Excellency presenting a Meritorious Service Decoration and Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers.

Following the Governor General’s visit to St. John’s, she will travel to Labrador for a series of meetings and events.
