The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and Randy Edmunds, Parliamentary Assistant to the Premier and Parliamentary Secretary for Indigenous Affairs, extended congratulations today to the newly-elected and re-elected Ordinary Members of the Nunatsiavut Assembly. Appreciation was also extended to all individuals who put themselves forward as candidates in the May 1 election.

The following individuals were elected in their respective constituencies:

  • Hopedale: Rachel Saunders
  • Postville: Tyler Edmunds
  • Makkovik: Kate Mitchell (acclaimed)
  • Nain: (two seats) Tony Andersen, Jim Lyall
  • Rigolet: Carlene Palliser
  • Upper Lake Melville: (two seats): Gerald Asivak, Marlene Winters-Wheeler

The 10 Ordinary Members will join President Johannes Lampe, AngajukKâks for each of the five Inuit Community Governments, and the chairpersons of two Community Corporations in the Nunatsiavut Assembly. “Congratulations to the Ordinary Members who have been elected to serve their constituencies in the Nunatsiavut Assembly. These members have a broad range of experiences and I am confident they will advance matters of importance and ably define the policies and actions that will move the Nunatsiavut Government forward. We are committed to working with the Nunatsiavut Assembly and will continue to build on the strong partnership we have forged to date.”
