Premier Ball and Parliamentary Assistant Edmunds Congratulate Ordinary Members Elected to the Nunatsiavut Assembly

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and Randy Edmunds, Parliamentary Assistant to the Premier and Parliamentary Secretary for Indigenous Affairs, extended congratulations today to the newly-elected and re-elected Ordinary Members of the Nunatsiavut Assembly. Appreciation was also extended to all individuals who put themselves forward as candidates in the May 1 election.

The following individuals were elected in their respective constituencies:

  • Hopedale: Rachel Saunders
  • Postville: Tyler Edmunds
  • Makkovik: Kate Mitchell (acclaimed)
  • Nain: (two seats) Tony Andersen, Jim Lyall
  • Rigolet: Carlene Palliser
  • Upper Lake Melville: (two seats): Gerald Asivak, Marlene Winters-Wheeler
  • Canada: (two seats): Edward Blake-Rudkowski, Roland Saunders

The 10 Ordinary Members will join President Johannes Lampe, AngajukKâks for each of the five Inuit Community Governments, and the chairpersons of two Community Corporations in the Nunatsiavut Assembly. While Nunatsiavut remains part of Newfoundland and Labrador, the government has authority over many central governance areas, including health, education, culture and language, justice, and community matters.
