The Provincial Government is congratulating Liam Hickey from St. John’s on winning a silver medal in para ice hockey as a member of Team Canada at the 2018 Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Team Canada finished the tournament with four wins and a 2-1 overtime loss in the final game against Team USA. Liam had six goals and five assists over the course of the tournament, including an assist on Canada’s only goal in the final game.
First named to Canada’s national para hockey team in December 2016, Liam was one of three athletes on the 2018 Canadian team to compete at both a summer and winter Paralympic Games. He represented Canada in wheelchair basketball at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio, Brazil.
Liam also earned a silver medal in wheelchair basketball at the 2015 Parapan American Games in Toronto.
In 2015 and 2016, Liam was named the Junior Male Athlete of the Year by Sport Newfoundland and Labrador for his outstanding athletic success.
