Bruce Chaulk, Newfoundland and Labrador’s Chief Electoral Officer, has issued a writ of election for the by-election in Topsail – Paradise. The by-election will take place on Thursday, January 24, 2019. Advance polls will be held on Thursday, January 17 and Saturday, January 19. Applications for Special Ballot voting are now being accepted.

Candidates must file official nomination papers with Elections Newfoundland and Labrador by Thursday, December 27 at 2:00 p.m. Nomination forms are available on Elections Newfoundland and Labrador’s website or at the district Returning Office.

The district Returning Officer, Daisy Carroll, has established a public office at 1429-E Topsail Road in Paradise. The telephone number for the office is 709-781-7807 and the email address is TopsailParadiseDst@gov.nl.ca.

The Returning Office hours, with some holiday exceptions, are as follows:

  • Monday to Friday: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Saturday: 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Sunday: 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Exceptions:
    • December 24: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
    • December 25: CLOSED
    • December 26: CLOSED
    • January 1: CLOSED
