The Provincial Government recognizes National Bullying Awareness Week, November 18 – 24. This year’s theme is Choose Kind.

Bullying Awareness Week is an opportunity for students, educators and parents to work together on preventing bullying through education and awareness. The proactive message of this year’s theme promotes safe, caring and inclusive school environments. Students, parents and teachers are encouraged to choose kind, to build relationships and to treat each other with respect and kindness.

The Provincial Government supports a proactive approach to eliminating bullying. The provincial Safe and Caring Schools Policy promotes the elimination of bullying, harassment and inappropriate behaviour. The policy also provides guidance on the development of a school code of conduct and the implementation of the bullying intervention protocol.

Each year the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development recognizes students and schools for their hard work in promoting safe, caring and inclusive school communities through special project awards and graduating student awards. Schools annually recognize Violence Awareness Week during the last week in February and participate in Pink Shirt Day during this week.
