Provincial Government Celebrates Foster Families Week

  • Children, Seniors and Social Development

October 23, 2018

Earlier this week, the Provincial Government joined the Newfoundland and Labrador Foster Families Association and foster families throughout the province to celebrate the beginning of Foster Families Week, which takes place October 21 to 27. Foster Families Week is held annually during the third week of October.

Throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, approximately 560 foster families provide safe and nurturing homes for children and youth. The Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development recognizes the vital role foster parents play in our province and works closely with the Newfoundland and Labrador Foster Families Association to recruit and support foster parents.

Quotes
“The Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development has tremendous respect for the work that goes on behind the scenes by many, many people who care deeply about the safety and well-being of children and youth in our province. Foster Families Week is a special opportunity to express our heartfelt appreciation and respect for foster families across our province for the inspiring role they play in the lives of children.”
Honourable Lisa Dempster
Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development

“Foster Families Week is a time to recognize and express appreciation to foster families in our province. Foster families nurture children, mend hurts, build relationships, support families and make this world a better place by opening their hearts and homes. Words seem so inadequate when we want to express appreciation to them. They are parents, teachers, coaches, mentors, leaders, team players, and that’s before any job they may have outside their homes. They reach out to others and touch hearts every day. We thank them for everything they do for children and families in our communities.”

Executive Director, Newfoundland and Labrador Foster Families Association
