Minister Dempster Announces 2019 Canada Games Mission Staff

Members of Team Newfoundland and Labrador’s mission staff for the 2019 Canada Winter Games were announced today by the Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development. The games will be held from February 15 to March 3, 2019, in Red Deer, Alberta.

The mission staff consists of 15 members led by Chef de Mission Karen Sherriffs, St. John’s, who served as Assistant Chef de Mission in 2017, 2015 and 2013 and mission staff in 2011, 2007 and 1999; Assistant Chefs de Mission Frank Humber, Corner Brook, who served as Assistant Chef in 2017 and 2015 and as mission staff in 2007, 2001 and 1999; and Gary Martin, Mount Pearl, who served as mission staff in 2017, 2015, 2013, 2011 and 2005.

Mission staff are Melissa Blackler, Twillingate; David Coates, Conception Bay South; Edward Flood, Corner Brook; Ian Flynn, Bay Roberts; Tom Godden, St. John’s; Robert Goulding, Grand Falls-Windsor; Brenda Greene, Happy Valley-Goose Bay; Denise Payne, Corner Brook; Jill Russell-Monk, Clarenville; Rosemary Ryan, Kippens; Allison Sturge, St. John’s; and H.G. (Hank) Summers, St. John’s.

Team Newfoundland and Labrador will be represented by approximately 250 athletes, coaches, and managers at the 2019 Canada Winter Games. The games are held every two years with Newfoundland and Labrador participating in the Canada Games since its inception in 1967. The province will host the Canada Summer Games in 2025.
