Provincial Government Acknowledges Yalda

  • Advanced Education, Skills and Labour

December 14, 2018

The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, wishes all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who celebrate the holiday a happy Yalda.

Yalda marks the longest and darkest night of the year, during which families and friends gather to share foods, recite poetry, and enjoy each other’s company. It is widely celebrated among Iranian, Azeri, Afghan, Tajik, Kurdish, and other cultures.

To recognize and celebrate the diversity of the province’s residents, the Provincial Government acknowledges cultural holidays and events, including through the 2018 Diversity Calendar, a key commitment in The Way Forward on Immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador.

This collaborative, partnership-driven immigration action plan delivers on commitments in The Way Forward to strengthen the province’s economic foundation and deliver better services and better outcomes for residents. The Way Forward outlines all actions the Provincial Government is taking to achieve a strong, diversified province with a high standard of living, and can be viewed at thewayforward.gov.nl.ca.
