October 19, 2018

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, wishes Baha’i Newfoundlanders and Labradorians a happy anniversary of the Birth of the Bab. The Birth of the Bab is one of the holiest days in the Baha’i faith, which has grown to include millions of people throughout the world, including Newfoundland and Labrador. It commemorates the October 20, 1819, birth of Siyyid ‘Ali-Muhammad, an important leader in the Baha’i faith known as the Bab. This year members of the Baha’i faith will commemorate the birth on November 9.

The Baha’i faith teaches unity as its central theme. Baha’is believe different religions should be respected as they share a common purpose in creating a permanent and universal peace.

The 2018 Diversity Calendar acknowledges this and other cultural holidays and events, a key commitment in The Way Forward on Immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador.

This collaborative, partnership-driven immigration action plan delivers on commitments in The Way Forward to strengthen the province’s economic foundation and deliver better services and better outcomes for residents. The Way Forward outlines all actions the Provincial Government is taking to achieve a strong, diversified province with a high standard of living, and can be viewed at thewayforward.gov.nl.ca.
