The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, wishes Jewish Newfoundlanders and Labradorians a rewarding Yom Kippur.
Yom Kippur is Judaism’s holiest day. Known as the Day of Atonement, Jewish families throughout the world observe the day by fasting and praying. Yom Kippur is a solemn day and once it concludes families enjoy a festive meal.
Yom Kippur begins this evening and ends tomorrow (Wednesday, September 19).
The 2018 Diversity Calendar acknowledges this and other cultural holidays and events, a key commitment in The Way Forward on Immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador.
This collaborative, partnership-driven immigration action plan delivers on commitments in The Way Forward to strengthen the province’s economic foundation and deliver better services and better outcomes for residents. The Way Forward outlines all actions the Provincial Government is taking to achieve a strong, diversified province with a high standard of living, and can be viewed at thewayforward.gov.nl.ca.
