Provincial Government Commemorates Rosh Hashanah

September 10, 2018

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, wishes Jewish Newfoundlanders and Labradorians a joyous and peaceful Rosh Hashanah.

Rosh Hashanah, or Jewish New Year, is a time when families gather to hear the blowing of a special ram’s horn trumpet called the Shofar, a symbolic call for them to reflect on any wrongdoings over the past year and seek forgiveness. They also gather together to enjoy festivities and pray for a peaceful and prosperous year ahead.

Rosh Hashanah began yesterday evening and ends tomorrow (Tuesday, September 11).

The 2018 Diversity Calendar acknowledges this and other cultural holidays and events, a key commitment in The Way Forward on Immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador.

This collaborative, partnership-driven immigration action plan delivers on commitments in The Way Forward to strengthen the province’s economic foundation and deliver better services and better outcomes for residents. The Way Forward outlines all actions the Provincial Government is taking to achieve a strong, diversified province with a high standard of living, and can be viewed at thewayforward.gov.nl.ca.
