The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, today wished Muslim Newfoundlanders and Labradorians a happy Eid al-Adha.

Also known as the Greater Eid, Eid al-Adha is a time of visiting family and friends, exchanging gifts, and supporting people in need. This year, Eid al-Adha begins August 21 and ends on Saturday, August 25. To mark the holiday, Muslim communities throughout the province will be celebrating with family, friends, colleagues, and neighbours.

The 2018 Diversity Calendar acknowledges this and other cultural holidays and events, a key commitment in The Way Forward on Immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador.

This collaborative, partnership-driven immigration action plan delivers on commitments in The Way Forward to strengthen the province’s economic foundation and deliver better services and better outcomes for residents. The Way Forward outlines all actions the Provincial Government is taking to achieve a strong, diversified province with a high standard of living, and can be viewed at thewayforward.gov.nl.ca.

Quote
“Eid al-Adha is one of the most important religious festivals for the Muslim community in this province and throughout the world. It is my pleasure to wish Muslim Newfoundlanders and Labradorians a happy and rewarding Eid al-Adha, in the company of their loved ones.”
