The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, today released the 2018 Diversity Calendar.
The calendar publicly acknowledges cultural events and holidays celebrated by all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, including newcomers to the province. Recognizing these important dates helps newcomers feel welcome in their new communities and increases public awareness of diversity and multiculturalism.
In The Way Forward on Immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador, the Provincial Government committed to developing the calendar to assist schools, municipalities, businesses and community organizations in planning multicultural activities. The calendar will be issued and updated annually, with ongoing input from cultural and other organizations.
The 2018 Diversity Calendar may be downloaded at www.aesl.gov.nl.ca/immigration.html. Organizations interested in having their cultural holidays and events included in the calendar are invited to email diversity@gov.nl.ca.
Quote
“The 2018 Diversity Calendar ensures we know when our friends and neighbours mark important events and holidays, enabling all of us to share in these celebrations together. It contributes to inter-cultural understanding and serves as a reminder of the rich diversity of people who proudly call this province home.”
