Provincial Government Issues Tender for Demolition of Former Virginia Park Elementary

A tender has been issued for the demolition of the former Virginia Park Elementary School in St. John's. The tender is for the demolition of the building structure of the old school and a tender for the new parking lot and landscaping will be issued in 2018.

The new East Point School in Virginia Park opened earlier this year for Grades K-6 on the same property. The new school contains 17 classrooms, a gymnasium and stage, a library resource centre, music room, lunch/multi-purpose room, commercial kitchen and a family resource centre, among other spaces.

“Our government is delighted to be moving forward with the work to remove the old Virginia Park Elementary School. This demolition will lead to the construction of a new parking lot and school grounds, which will be welcome additions for staff, parents and the children in the neighbourhood.”
Honourable Steve Crocker
Minister of Transportation and Works

“Our government has made a commitment to improving school infrastructure in our province. The enhancement to East Point Elementary in Virginia Park will provide renewed opportunity for a quality education for children in the community.”
Honourable Dale Kirby
Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development

“I am very pleased we have reached the next phase in this project for the community. The removal of the old school will allow for the landscaping to be completed and I am looking forward to seeing the finished product.”
