Update Provided on MV Legionnaire Service at Bell Island-Portugal Cove

The project to complete necessary upgrades to the wharves at Bell Island and Portugal Cove to accommodate the MV Legionnaire continues to move forward. Training and other measures required for the vessel to enter service have been completed.

This past weekend, the Legionnaire concluded temporary service to the Fogo Island-Change Islands route while the MV Veteran underwent planned maintenance. The vessel will be docked at Lewisporte until it enters service on Bell Island.

Construction activity at Bell Island and Portugal Cove will intensify as weather conditions improve in the spring. It is anticipated that work will be completed and the vessel will enter service in July. Updates will be provided as construction progresses and completion dates can be more firmly identified.

The department is working closely with the contractor to have the work completed as quickly as possible.
