Citizens’ Representative Delivers Report on the History and Treatment of Donald Dunphy by WorkplaceNL

Citizens’ Representative, Barry Fleming, QC, delivered his report on the History and Treatment of Donald Dunphy by WorkplaceNL to the Lieutenant Governor-in-Council and the Family of Mr. Dunphy.

By Order-in-Council dated September 23, 2016, the Lieutenant Governor-in-Council referred to the Office of the Citizens’ Representative for investigation the history and treatment of Donald Dunphy’s claim by WorkplaceNL.

The Citizens’ Representative has concluded that Mr. Dunphy’s claim was treated in accordance with applicable legislation and policy in effect at all times material to his claims. His investigation prompted two recommendations. That WorkplaceNL:

a)
provide more information early in the claim process about the core value of the workers compensation system; and
b)

offer social work and psychological services for those injured workers who experience difficulty in dealing with the altered life experience caused by their workplace injuries.
