Statement by the Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources, on the report on the draft tube formwork incident at the Muskrat Falls site:

A primary concern for our government is the safety of workers and we were relieved there were no serious injuries as a result of the industrial incident at the Muskrat Falls generation site last May. An investigation report into the incident has now been released to the public. Nalcor retained aDB, a structural engineering consultant, to work with Astaldi and their engineering consultants to investigate the draft tube incident.

The Occupational Health and Safety Division of Service NL continues its investigation of this matter. Project manager Nalcor has confirmed that all four draft tubes have been completed and the temporary formwork is being removed. All of the work has been completed and was inspected as part of regular and routine quality control process. Nalcor advises that actions have been taken on site to improve processes to prevent this from happening again.
