Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

DECISION ON APPEAL:

Harbour Breton Fish Meal Plant                                                             (Reg.1874)   
Proponent: Barry Group Inc.

An appeal was received of the decision to release the above undertaking from further environmental assessment. The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment has determined that the decision on May 30, 2017, stands and the appeal is dismissed. The decision on the appeal can be viewed on the department’s website at: www.mae.gov.nl.ca/env_assessment/projects/Y2016/1874/index.html.

EXTENSION

Change Islands Quarry Access Road                                                  (Reg. 1918)
Proponent: D.T. Triple C Inc.

The Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment and the proponent have agreed to extend the deadline for public comments to October 16, 2017; and the minister’s decision is due by October 23, 2017. The purpose of the extension is to allow government agencies and the public additional time to review and comment on the revised route of the proposed quarry access road. A map of the revised road route can be viewed on the department’s website at: www.mae.gov.nl.ca/env_assessment/projects/Y2017/1918/index.html .

South Dildo Cottage Development                                                       (Reg.1919)   
Proponent: Primac Development Inc.

The Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment and the proponent have agreed to extend the deadline for public comments to October 20, 2017; and the minister’s decision is due by October 27, 2017.

UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED:

Crown District 19A Five Year Operating Plan (2018-2022)             
(Reg. 1906)
Proponent: Department of Fisheries and Land Resources

The project is released subject to the following condition:

  • The proponent must maintain a minimum 30-meter naturally vegetated buffer along all watercourses, waterbodies, and wetlands to protect sensitive riparian and aquatic species and their habitat.

Springdale Junction Agriculture Forage and Pasture Land          (Reg. 1910)
Proponent: Spring Meadow Farm Inc.

Exploits River Non-Commercial Animal and Vegetable Farm        (Reg. 1912)
Proponent: Ms. Vickey Budgell

The project is released subject to the following condition:

  • The proponent must maintain a minimum 30-meter naturally vegetated buffer along all watercourses, waterbodies, and wetlands to protect sensitive riparian and aquatic species and their habitat.


Milton Cidery and Orchard                                                                      (Reg. 1916)
Proponent: Newfoundland Cider Company

The project is released subject to the following condition:

  • The proponent must maintain a minimum 30-meter naturally vegetated buffer along all watercourses, waterbodies, and wetlands to protect sensitive riparian and aquatic species and their habitat.
