Minister Joyce Announces Funding for Water System Upgrades for Wabana

Today, the Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment was joined by Nick Whalen, MP for St. John’s East, for an announcement of municipal infrastructure funding for the Town of Wabana on Bell Island. The Provincial Government is contributing over $892,000 toward a municipal drinking water project.

With a total project value of $1.7 million, the funding will be used to replace the pumphouse and drill new wells at Yard #3 and will result in cleaner, safer drinking water. The federal share for the project is up to $525,000 and the Town of Wabana will contribute approximately $158,000.

This initiantive is one of 77 projects that have been allocated funding under the Small Communities Fund of the New Building Canada Fund. Provincial and federal governments recently announced approximately $29.3 million has been allocated under the fund for municipal infrastructure projects.
