Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

AMENDMENT TO REGISTRATION:

White Hill Pond Quarry (Reg.1889)
Proponent: Butler’s Sand and Stone Co. Ltd

The proponent has submitted an amendment to the April 2017 registration document that outlines a revised route to the west of existing quarries. The amendment can be viewed on the department’s website at: www.mae.gov.nl.ca/env_assessment/projects/Y2017/1889/index.html.

The deadline for public comments is August 29, 2017. The minister’s decision is due on September 8, 2017.

APPEAL OF MINISTER’S DECISION:

Harbour Breton Fish Meal Plant (Reg.1874)
Proponent: Barry Group Inc.

The above undertaking was released from further environmental assessment on May 30, 2017. On July 12, 2017, the minister received an appeal of that decision under section 107 of the Environmental Protection Act and is required to respond within 30 days. The appeal document can be viewed on the department’s website at: www.mae.gov.nl.ca/env_assessment/projects/Y2016/1874/index.html. The deadline for public comments is August 8, 2017. The minister’s decision on the appeal is due by August 11, 2017.
