Minister Joyce and Minister Byrne Announce New Fire Truck for Corner Brook

Today, the Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, and the Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour and MHA for the District of Corner Brook, announced a new fire truck for the City of Corner Brook.

The Provincial Government is pleased to be providing approximately $186,000 for a new four-door pumper truck that pumps 1050 gallons of water per minute and features a 1,000-gallon tank with a Class A foam capacity. The truck is anticipated to be delivered in spring 2018.

Budget 2017 includes an investment of $1.88 million for the replacement of fire protection vehicles and firefighting equipment program for 2017-18.

“As a government, we continue to work to ensure that firefighters in Newfoundland and Labrador have modern vehicles and equipment so that they can offer the best service possible to residents. Residents will see direct benefits from the new truck, which will increase the Corner Brook Fire Department’s capacity to respond quickly and efficiently in times of need.”
Honourable Eddie Joyce

“As MHA for the District of Corner Brook I am pleased to announce this significant investment in firefighting equipment. The new pumper truck will be a great addition to the Corner Brook Fire Department and support the efforts of staff who are always effective and responsive when duty calls.”
Honourable Gerry Byrne
Minister of Advanced Education and Skills and MHA for the District of Corner Brook

"We are very pleased to be able to work collaboratively with the province towards the purchase of a new fire truck that will serve Corner Brook for years to come. Today’s announcement is very positive for the City. The funds committed, along with the City's investment will go a long way to help purchase a new rescue pumper and we anticipate the next council will commit the additional funds required to complete the purchase. The work done by firefighters is of vital importance and investments in fire trucks and fire equipment is essential. The equipment that we are planning on purchasing will greatly enhance the ability of our firefighters to ensure the safety, protection, and well-being of residents.”
