Minister Coady Participates in Official Opening of Bowring Park Pool House

The Provincial Government joined the City of St. John’s today to officially open the Bowring Park Pool House. The Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources and MHA for St. John’s West; Seamus O’Regan, MP for St John’s South - Mount Pearl; and Dennis O’Keefe, Mayor of the City of St. John’s, attended the event along with members of the Bowring Park Foundation.

The total cost to construct the facility was $4.3 million with the Provincial Government investing approximately $1.1 million through the Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment’s Multi Year Capital Works program. The City of St. John's contributed $2.2 million, the Bowring Park Foundation raised $800,000, and the Federal Government contributed $200,000 through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).

The Bowring Park Foundation identified upgrading of the pool house as a priority in 2005. The facility has accessible washrooms and change rooms with the addition of a family change room, as well as a new deck and terrace area. Other updates include a wading pool for tots, a three-metre diving board and a new water slide to be installed at a later date.
