Minister Coady Participates in Official Opening of Bowring Park Pool House
The Provincial Government joined the City of St. John’s today to officially open the Bowring Park Pool House. The Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources and MHA for St. John’s West; Seamus O’Regan, MP for St John’s South - Mount Pearl; and Dennis O’Keefe, Mayor of the City of St. John’s, attended the event along with members of the Bowring Park Foundation.
The total cost to construct the facility was $4.3 million with the Provincial Government investing approximately $1.1 million through the Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment’s Multi Year Capital Works program. The City of St. John's contributed $2.2 million, the Bowring Park Foundation raised $800,000, and the Federal Government contributed $200,000 through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
The Bowring Park Foundation identified upgrading of the pool house as a priority in 2005. The facility has accessible washrooms and change rooms with the addition of a family change room, as well as a new deck and terrace area. Other updates include a wading pool for tots, a three-metre diving board and a new water slide to be installed at a later date.
“This new pool house for Bowring Park ensures users of the park will have an accessible and inclusive space when they come to use the pool this summer. Bowring Park provides families and children the opportunity to explore and enjoy the outdoors and this new facility will enhance that experience for all residents for years to come.”

“I'm delighted to announce that through ACOA, the government of Canada is contributing $200,000 to the Bowring Park Pool House,” said Seamus O’Regan, Member of Parliament, St. John’s South - Mount Pearl. I'm sure many families and small children have been looking forward to this day. I hope that the weather cooperates so the facility can be used to the fullest. If you're looking for something to do this summer, drop down to Bowring Park, one of our city's crown jewels, and enjoy the many things it has to offer including the new pool house."
