The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Corner Brook Microbrewery (Reg. 1901)
Proponent: Bootleg Brew Co. Ltd.

The proponent is proposing to construct and operate a three-barrel capacity microbrewery and a lounge area for tasting beer, filling growlers and selling branded merchandise at 92 West Street, Corner Brook. The beer produced will be small batch, hand crafted beer made from all natural ingredients (water, yeast, grain and hops) and will have no added preservatives. The microbrewery will be capable of producing up to 561 hectolitres per year.

The undertaking was registered on July 5, 2017; the deadline for public comments is August 9, 2017; and the minister’s decision is due by August 19, 2017.

Crown District 2 Five Year Operating Plan (2017-2021) (Reg. 1902)
Proponent: Department of Fisheries and Land Resources, Forestry and Wildlife Branch

The proponent is proposing to amend the commercial harvest block CC02057 of the 2017-2021 Five Year Operating Plan in District 2. This block is located southeast of the Terra Nova River and approximately 12 kilometres southwest of Terra Nova. The amendment area is 127-hectares providing 17,000 cubic metres of timber. The area included in this amendment is accessible by an existing access road and an additional access road recently constructed in association with the Labrador-Island Link project.

The undertaking was registered on July 5, 2017; the deadline for public comments is August 9, 2017; and the minister’s decision is due by August 19, 2017.

ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE APPOINTED:

Health Science Centre Berm (Reg. 1887)
Proponent: Eastern Health

On June 23, 2017 the minister advised the proponent that an Environmental Preview Report (EPR) is required for the project. An Environmental Assessment Committee has been appointed to provide scientific and technical advice to the minister and to prepare draft guidelines for conducting the EPR. The Environmental Assessment Committee includes representation from the following divisions of the Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment:

  • Environmental Assessment Division – Committee Chairperson
  • Water Resources Management Division - Hydrologic Modeling
  • Water Resources Management Division – Drinking Water and Wastewater
