Minister Joyce and Minister Byrne Announce Funding for Western Regional Service Board and Corner Brook Infrastructure Projects

The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, was joined today by the Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills and MHA for Corner Brook, to announce over $4.5 million through the Multi Year Capital Works (MYCW) program for projects in the City of Corner Brook. Minister Joyce also announced more than $4.5 million in funding for the Western Regional Service Board.

The Provincial Government is investing $4.5 million for the City of Corner Brook through its MYCW program for water quality improvements, storm sewer upgrades, culvert replacements, and upgrades to city infrastructure. Approximately $110,000 of this amount is being allocated towards a feasibility study for a Regional Aquatic Centre in Corner Brook. This feasibility study will undertake research and critical analysis to address an identified gap in aquatic and recreation facilities in the region and help identify potential solutions.

The Provincial Government is providing over $4.5 million in funding to the Western Regional Service Board from the Federal Gas Tax Agreement. This funding will assist the board to address urgent items that they have identified as priorities for the continued development of waste management in the region. Under the Provincial Waste Management Strategy, the province has committed to providing 100 per cent of the funding for the establishment of regional waste management infrastructure, and approximately $170 million has been spent to date on this initiative.
