Minister Parsons Releases Interim Report from the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety, today released the interim report from the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. The report can be viewed online at www.justice.gov.nl.ca/just/publications/pdf/MMIWG_interim_report.pdf PDF icon.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is committed to full participation in the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and appreciates that the inquiry will be coming to Newfoundland and Labrador for hearings in the near future.

Once the commission visits this province and has heard from Indigenous women and girls, their families, and others from across the country, it will make final recommendations.

Quote
“Violence in all forms is unacceptable and I am committed to work with my provincial and territorial partners as well as the Federal Government to take action to address this issue. It is important that the commission make efforts to identify and nurture leadership among all Indigenous people, including women and girls, and men and boys and to include all in the healing process. We need to do whatever we can to make Newfoundland and Labrador a safer place.”
Honourable Andrew Parsons
Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General
