Media Advisory: Minister Parsons to Host Summit on Criminal Justice System
The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General, will offer opening remarks at a justice summit tomorrow (Tuesday, March 28) at 8:30 a.m. Minister Parsons will be joined by Bill Blair, Parliamentary Secretary to the Honourable Jody Wilson-Raybould, federal Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada.
The event will take place at the RCMP Headquarters, 100 East White Hills Road in St. John’s. The summit itself is open to participants only.
The summit, organized by the Department of Justice and Public Safety, is a day-long discussion about how the criminal justice system is currently operating in the St. John’s region, with particular focus on the Jordan decision released by the Supreme Court of Canada in July 2016. The summit will be attended by representatives from the criminal justice system, including the judiciary, police, mental health advocates and other community support groups.
