Flatter, Leaner Management Structure Implemented for Regional Health Authorities and NLCHI

Regional health authorities, along with the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information (NLCHI), today are implementing a flatter, leaner management structure. This follows on the Provincial Government’s approach to flatter, leaner management as outlined in The Way Forward.

The organizational changes announced today will result in streamlined operations and reduce the cost of delivering effective programs and services. This will be achieved with a net reduction of 93 positions. Thirty-seven of these positions are currently vacant.

For a breakdown of the number of positions impacted per health authority, please see the backgrounder below.

Adopting a flatter, leaner management structure within the regional health authorities and NLCHI is expected to save approximately $7.6 million annually in salaries and benefits. Within the executive level, today’s announcement represents a 21 per cent reduction in the number of executive positions within the regional health authorities.

The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, will be available to media today (Wednesday, March 29) at 12:15 p.m. to speak to the implementation of flatter, leaner management in the regional health authorities and NLCHI. The availability will take place at Confederation Building outside the House of Assembly.

Quote
“We realize this is a challenging time for people impacted by these organizational changes. Although these were difficult decisions, with our very serious fiscal situation, they had to be made. We committed to make government and its agencies more efficient and focused – the people of the province will hold us to that.”
Honourable John Haggie
Minister of Health and Community Services
