Core Funding for Community Groups Maintained in 2017-18

The Honourable Cathy Bennett, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board, today announced that the approximately $70 million in core funding the Provincial Government currently provides to community groups will be maintained for the next fiscal year.

“Community groups provide an important service to the people they serve and to the province as a whole. I am pleased to announce that core funding will be maintained for community groups in the 2017-18 fiscal year. As we indicated in The Way Forward, our government remains committed to implementing a multi-year approach for community grant funding. As our work in this regard continues, we are providing certainty to these community groups that their funding will continue this fiscal year.”

A decision regarding new funding requests for community groups for the 2017-18 fiscal year will be made as part of Budget 2017.

The Way Forward committed to implement a strategic one-window, multi-year approach to community grant funding to ensure an efficient and consistent approach to administration, accountability and evaluation. Financial systems and legislative frameworks will be modified as required to facilitate the development of multi-year funding arrangements with community organizations where appropriate.
