Public Advisory: Public Information Sessions Scheduled to Discuss Upgrades to Section of Newfoundland T’Railway

The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources is hosting two public information sessions to provide the public with an opportunity to learn more about plans to upgrade and utilize a section of the Newfoundland T’Railway system. The upgrades are being undertaken as part of the 2017-2021 five-year operating plan for Forest Management Zone 3 which was recently approved through the provincial environmental assessment process.

The sessions are scheduled to take place at the Gambo District Forestry and Wildlife Office on Tuesday, August 15 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Individuals unable to attend can provide comment to Mr. Brian Carter, Forest Ecosystem District Manager at 709.256.1452, Mr. Dave Poole, Forest Ecosystem Planner at 709.256.1416 or by email at briancarter@gov.nl.ca

The upgrades are expected to begin in late summer or early fall at the intersection of Alexander Bay Station Road and the Newfoundland T’Railway extending east 19 km to the intersection of Chain Pond Resource Road. Alexander Bay Station Road can be accessed directly from the Trans-Canada Highway two kilometers west of the Glovertown overpass. Upon completion, this 19 km portion of the Newfoundland T’Railway will function as a shared forest access road.
